How to Get Deborah Lippmann's Polka Dot Manicure for Kate Spade

If there was ever a more apt motto for a company, it would have to be Kate Spade's philosophy, "Live Colorfully." The mega-retailer of spirited and sophisticated womenswear continues to expand its covetable handbags, accessories, jewelry, shoes, and clothing collections while maintaining an irreverent tip-of-the-hat to all things happy-making. When not infusing wardrobes with bold color or a dash of sparkle, they often turn to whimsical motifs and patterns while still maintaining a sense of femininity and elegance. For fall, the brand loves polka dots.

In the latest ad campaign, a simple palette of red, white, black, and beige in 1960s shapes is augmented by both a polka dot handbag and matching polka dot nails. Manicurist Deborah Lippmann created the polka mani and gave us the lowdown on how to recreate it...

"We started by shaping the nail to an almond shape—not sporty and not stiletto—a very wearable length. We used Fade to Black creme on the whole nail and let it dry. Once those coats were dry, sporadic, different-sized dots of I'm Not Innocent were added. The dots were created with the natural circular shape of the bottom of the brush, which acted as a shape guide for each dot. There was less lacquer than normal on each brush to avoid spilling or having too much polish on the nail. Once the dots were completely dry, Addicted To Speed Ultra Quick Dry Top Coat was added. When the models arrived we matched the nails and applied them to each girl."

You'd be dotty not to try it.
